What's new in Clovera Chat — version history and updates.

Latest v5.9.1 September 2026

Voice rooms you can rely on

A shared screen no longer turns black, a voice you could not hear now comes through, and muting someone leaves the room looking right.

  • Fixed The shared screen is never black again — The picture used to travel straight from the presenter to each viewer, which needed a route through your network that often was not there, and the viewer was left staring at a black frame. It now goes through the same server your voice already goes through, so it works on any network, shows up within a couple of seconds, and its sound comes with it. Deafening silences the screen along with everyone else.
  • Fixed A screen stays smooth while its presenter talks — Speaking while sharing slowed the picture to about one frame a second, and switching to the window you were sharing slowed it again. Both are gone: the screen keeps its full rate whether you are talking, quiet, or looking at another window.
  • Fixed A voice you could not hear — The first moments of someone's speech were dropped while the room was still setting up, a tab left in the background quietly lost its connection, and a microphone the system had silenced looked fine while sending nothing. The first frames are now kept, a background tab keeps its seat and its connection, a silent microphone is picked up again on its own, and the key that turns audio on appears the moment it is needed.
  • Fixed Muting someone no longer disturbs the room — The seats were redrawn every few seconds, which pulled the mute key out from under your pointer just as you reached it. Seats now change only where something changed, the mute key is always there on a phone, a double tap cannot send the same mute twice, and undeafening gives you back the microphone state you had before.
  • Fixed A fix reaches every browser at once — The voice room's scripts could stay cached for up to twelve hours after a release, so for a while some people ran the new version and some the old one, and the room behaved differently from one person to the next. Every release now reaches every browser on the next page load.
v5.9 September 2026

Blogs that remember

KittenAI can now rewrite your post — with your approval — every save is kept as a version you can go back to, and a draft no longer dies with the tab.

  • New KittenAI rewrites, you approve — Ask it to shorten your intro, fix the spelling or change the title and it hands back the rewritten post instead of describing it. You see the new title and a line-by-line diff of the body first; nothing reaches your draft until you press Apply, and discarding leaves it exactly as it was.
  • New Versions — Every save keeps the text it replaced. The blog page has a Versions panel with the last ten, each showing when it was saved, whether the body was written by you or by KittenAI, and what going back would bring. Restoring keeps the current text as a version too, so it is undoable.
  • New Your draft waits for you — The new post page keeps what you type on your own device as you write. Close the tab, lose the browser, come back tomorrow — it offers the draft back with the time you left it. Nothing is sent anywhere and nothing is restored unless you ask.
  • Fixed A rejected post no longer takes your writing with it — A title one character too long used to send you back to an empty editor and delete everything you had written under it. The page now comes back with your text still in it.
v5.8 August 2026

Communities come alive

A community can now say when it is meeting, spell things in its own pictures, and show a screen in a voice room.

  • New Events — Schedule what your community is doing and when, point it at a voice channel or anywhere else, and see who is coming. Times are stored once and shown in every member's own clock.
  • New I'm going — One tap says you'll be there, or that you're interested. Everyone who answers gets a reminder fifteen minutes before it starts, and is told if it moves or is called off.
  • New Community emoji — Upload up to 30 pictures your members can type by name. Written as :name:, they appear in that community's channels and in the picker beside the Clojis.
  • New Screen sharing — Show your screen in a voice channel. Voice still goes through Clovera; the screen goes straight from you to the people watching, one presenter at a time.
  • Improved Manage events — A new role permission, so a community can hand the calendar to someone without handing over the whole server.
  • Fixed Notifications that arrive when Clovera is closed — Push notifications never actually left the server: the key they are signed with was stored in a format the sending library cannot read, so every one of them failed in the key parser before it reached anyone. That is fixed, the key no longer changes when the server restarts, a device whose subscription went stale repairs itself the next time you open Clovera, and Settings has a button that sends you a real notification so you can see for yourself.
  • Improved Notifications that name the sender — A notification used to say "New notification" and open your inbox. It now says who it was from and what they did, carries their avatar, and opens the conversation itself. The Windows app gets the most out of this: it sits in your tray and receives messages the moment they arrive, so it never needed browser push — and the same message is no longer announced twice when Clovera is open in a browser tab.
  • New Notifications on from the start, and news when there is some — You no longer have to go and find a switch: Clovera asks once and turns notifications on there and then. And when a new version ships, you get told — the release lands in your notifications with a link straight to what changed.
v5.7.2 August 2026

You can see it land

Badges and levels no longer arrive in silence: every unlock is celebrated on screen.

  • New Badge fanfare — A new badge or achievement opens a glowing card in the middle of the screen: turning rays, sparks, the badge's name and how you earned it. Tap the card to send it away, or let it go on its own.
  • New The level-up card — Levelling up shows the same card with the level you reached, plus a link straight to the theme picker when that level unlocked one. Unlocks that land together are played one after another.
  • Improved Milestones only, not every move — Plain XP stays quiet — it arrives on nearly every action, so celebrating it would fill the screen. The card is reserved for badges, achievements and levels, and it no longer waits for a page reload. With reduced motion on, the animations fall back to a plain card.
v5.7.1 August 2026

Twenty rings

The ring slot doubles: eight rings open to everyone, eleven more to earn, and no long stretch of levels without one in sight.

  • New Eight free rings — Dusk, Frost, Clay and Lattice join Halo, Dawn, Tide and Stipple — one free ring per base theme, so a brand-new account can already put a look together.
  • New Six more level rewards — Kindle at level 1, Quill at 5, Coral at 12, Nocturne at 21, Solaris at 31 and Zenith at 42. Zenith sits at the top of the ladder and is the only ring that moves.
  • Improved A ladder with no dead stretches — Rings now arrive at least every six levels, all the way to 42 — the old gaps between 16 and 36 are gone. Every ring you already own keeps its place, and nothing you are wearing changes.
v5.7 August 2026

Your profile, your way

The biggest profile update Clovera has shipped: collectable items to wear, a living Kampfire ember, a layout you arrange block by block, and sections you write yourself.

  • New Profile items — A wardrobe of rings, nameplates and textures. Some are open to everyone, the rest unlock as your activity level climbs — and whatever you equip follows you everywhere on Clovera.
  • New Kampfire ember — With no ring equipped, a living ember glows around your avatar instead. It brightens as you take part and cools when you go quiet — nobody can buy it, grant it, or fake it.
  • New Profile layout editor — Arrange your page: two columns, block order, banner height, avatar position — and every block can be hidden, narrowed, aligned, or pinned at a tilt. With a live preview while you edit.
  • New Profile blocks — Write your own sections: a free-text panel, a list of links, or a pinned post. Everything passes KittenMOD, the same moderation every post passes.
  • Improved Items travel with you — Avatars across chats, feeds, forums and member lists now carry their owner's ring and nameplate — your look is yours on every screen, not just your profile.
v5.6 July 2026

Themes

Clovera comes in eighteen looks now — eight open to everyone, ten more you unlock by staying active.

  • New Themes for everyone — Eight looks are open to every account from day one: Clovera, Fern, Amber, Orchid, Vela, Myrrh, Quartz and Noct. Each one repaints the whole app — background, surfaces, text, borders and buttons. Pick yours under Settings.
  • New Level rewards — Ten more themes unlock as your activity level climbs, from Slate at level 2 through to Vesper at 42. Locked ones stay visible in the picker so you can see what's coming and how much XP is left.
  • Improved Level-up notice — The level-up toast now names any theme you just earned and links straight to the picker.
v5.5 July 2026

Bots & KittenAI

Communities get their own helpers: build no-code bots in Clovera Creator, and let KittenAI answer right where you mention it.

  • New Clovera Creator — A dedicated space to build your own bots with no code — pick a trigger (a member joins, a keyword, a command, a mention, a schedule or a reaction) and chain up to five actions like sending messages, DMs or handing out roles. Each bot is its own account with its own avatar.
  • New KittenAI mentions — Mention @kittenai in a post comment, blog comment, server channel or group chat and it replies inline; open a direct chat with it and it answers every message. Server owners can toggle it per community.
  • New Channel reactions — React to channel messages with quick emoji — and bots can respond when a reaction is added.
  • New Puppetmaster — A new achievement for bringing your first bot to life in Clovera Creator.
  • Improved Fairer limits — Every account can own up to 10 communities and create up to 2 bots for now.
v5.4 July 2026

Communities & Roles

The biggest community update yet — a real role hierarchy, per-channel permissions, categories, richer mentions, and stronger moderation so a whole community can move in and feel at home.

  • New Role hierarchy — Drag roles up or down to set who outranks whom. Members can only manage roles and moderate members below their own top role.
  • New Multiple roles per member — A member can now hold any number of roles; their permissions stack, and each role can carry its own colour, icon, hoist, and @-mention setting.
  • New Channel categories — Group channels into named, collapsible sections in the sidebar to keep busy servers tidy.
  • New Channel permissions — Override per role who can view a channel, send messages, or open threads — hidden channels simply disappear for those without access.
  • New Role, @everyone & @here mentions — Ping an entire role, @everyone, or the online @here to reach members instantly, with permission checks so only the right people can broadcast.
  • New Auto-roles & timed timeouts — Give new members a role automatically the moment they join, and mute with a timer that lifts itself when it expires.
  • Improved KittenMOD — Content moderation is now KittenMOD, with a new community word filter that blocks unwanted words alongside the existing AI checks.
v5.3 July 2026

Catch-Up & Kampfire

Open the app and know everything in ten seconds — and see at a glance which conversations are burning hot.

  • New Catch-Up — One tap on the feed and KittenAI tells you what you missed across DMs, groups, and servers — questions aimed at you first.
  • New Kampfire — Active servers, channels, and groups now carry a flame that grows with the conversation and dies out after 24 quiet hours.
  • New Why Clovera, in One Sentence — The home page now answers the only question that matters: encrypted messages, no language barrier, and AI that keeps you caught up.
v5.2 July 2026

Live Translation — chat without language barriers

Everyone writes in their own language, everyone reads in their own. Clovera now translates conversations for you, live.

  • New Live Translation — Turn it on once and incoming DM, group, and channel messages are automatically translated into your language by KittenAI.
  • New Original Always in Reach — Every translated message keeps its original text one tap away, so nothing is ever lost in translation.
  • New Private by Design — Translations are cached with the same application-layer encryption as your messages and are never re-sent to the AI once stored.
v5.1 July 2026

Photos & Videos in Posts

Bring your posts to life — you can now attach photos and video clips to what you share in the feed, with or without text.

  • New Photo Posts — Attach a photo (PNG, JPG, GIF, or WebP) to any feed post, right from the composer — with or without a caption.
  • New Video Posts — Share short video clips (MP4, WebM, or MOV) up to 20 MB. They play right in the feed with built-in controls.
  • New Smart Photo Moderation — KittenAI reviews attached photos and only blocks clearly unsafe images — anything ambiguous is allowed through.
v5.0 June 2026

Moderation, Messaging & Achievements

A major update packed with moderation tools, messaging upgrades, and achievement badges — giving communities more control, better organisation, and new ways to engage.

  • New Kick — Remove a member from the community instantly. They can rejoin if the community is public or with an invite.
  • New Ban — Permanently block a member from the community. Banned members cannot rejoin even with an invite link. Moderators can revoke bans at any time from the Bans tab.
  • New Mute — Silence a member — they can still read channels but cannot send messages. Unmute them at any time from the Members tab.
  • New Pinned Messages — Pin important messages in DMs, group chats, and community channels so they stay easy to find.
  • New Scheduled Messages — Write a message now, send it later. Schedule DMs, group chats, and channel messages up to weeks in advance.
  • New Message Forwarding — Forward any message to a direct message or community channel with one click.
  • New Unread Badges — See unread message counts on channels and communities so you never miss a conversation.
  • New Channel Slow Mode — Moderators can set a cooldown on channels so members must wait before sending the next message.
  • New Server Audit Log — A full record of moderation actions — kicks, bans, mutes, channel changes — visible to server admins.
  • New Achievement Badges — Earn milestone badges on your profile — first message, 100 messages, server founder, moderator, 30-day veteran, and more.
v4.9 June 2026

Activity Rewards & Profile Badges

Get rewarded for being active on Clovera — your posts, messages and reactions earn levels, and reaching new levels unlocks badges shown on your profile.

  • New Activity badges — Earn XP from posts, blogs, channel/DM/group messages and reactions; your total XP sets your activity level. Seven tiers from Spark to Diamond — each with its own colour and effects — unlock on your account and appear on your profile alongside a level progress bar.
  • New Level-up cue — When you reach a new level, a subtle, tasteful notification slides in with your newly unlocked badge — understated, without turning the platform into a game.
  • Improved Fair progression — A daily XP cap, no XP for reacting to your own content, and levels always derived from earned XP keep badges something you genuinely earn. Higher tiers are deliberately harder to reach.
v4.8 June 2026

Blog Editing, Comments & Markdown

Blogs grew up — edit published posts, let readers comment, and write with Markdown formatting and a live preview.

  • New Edit your posts — Revise a blog post's title, content, and topic at any time from an inline editor on the post page. Edited posts show a subtle "edited" label.
  • New Reader comments — Readers can leave comments on published blog posts. You can moderate the discussion on your own posts, and admins can remove any comment.
  • Improved Markdown & live preview — Write posts with Markdown — headings, lists, quotes, code blocks and tables — and switch to a Preview tab to see exactly how it will look before saving.
v4.7 June 2026

Replies & Polls

Quote and reply to any message, and gather opinions with interactive polls in groups and channels.

  • New Message replies — Reply to any direct, group, or channel message. The original is quoted above your reply and links straight back to it, so conversations are easy to follow.
  • New Polls — Create polls in group chats and server channels. Vote with a tap, watch results update live, allow single or multiple choices, and close the poll whenever you're done.
v4.6 June 2026

Mobile Usability Improvements

Clovera is much smoother on phones now: a bottom navigation bar, a long-press message menu, and a smarter composer.

  • New Mobile bottom navigation bar — A fixed tab bar at the bottom of the screen on phones — Feed, Communities, Notifications, Profile and a menu, all reachable one-handed. The active tab is highlighted and unread notifications show live on the badge.
  • New Long-press message menu — Long-press a message (mobile) or right-click it (desktop) to react, copy, edit or delete. Actions that used to need a mouse hover are now usable on touch devices too.
  • Improved Smarter composer — The message box auto-grows as you type; Enter sends, Shift+Enter adds a new line. On notched phones the keyboard and input no longer overlap.
v4.5 June 2026

Message Reactions & Typing Indicator

React to direct messages with Clovera's own Cloji emoji set and see when the other person is typing.

  • New Cloji message reactions — React to any direct message with one of Clovera's branded Cloji emojis — heart, laugh, fire, and more. Reactions update live for both sides.
  • New Typing indicator — See a live “is typing…” indicator in direct messages so you know when the other person is replying.
v4.4 June 2026

Group Chats

Clovera now supports encrypted group conversations. Create a group from your contacts and chat, share files, and send voice messages together.

  • New Encrypted group chats — Start a group conversation with up to 10 people from your contacts. Messages, files, and voice recordings are protected with the same encryption used in direct messages.
  • New Group management — Group owners can rename the group and add or remove members at any time. If the owner leaves, ownership is automatically handed to the longest-standing member.
  • New Live updates & notifications — Groups appear in your sidebar with unread badges, update in real time, send push notifications, and KittenAI can summarize the conversation for you.

Correction: Since 14 September 2026 group messages are no longer encrypted at rest; they are stored in plain text so that a report about one can be acted on. Direct messages remain encrypted. This entry describes the release as it was at the time. See Section 8 of the Privacy Policy.

v4.3 June 2026

Push Notifications & AI Usage

You can now receive notifications outside the app, and track your daily KittenAI usage directly from Settings.

  • New Browser push notifications — Enable browser notifications from Settings to get alerted about direct messages, mentions, and friend requests even when Clovera is not open.
  • New KittenAI usage tracker — A new card in Settings shows how many of your 30 daily KittenAI requests you've used and when the quota resets.
v4.2 May

Presence fixes & deeper customization

Your online status is now visible to everyone, plus new ways to personalize your profile and servers.

  • Fixed Online status visibility — Fixed an issue where others saw you as offline even while you were active — presence now refreshes reliably for everyone.
  • New Profile customization — Set pronouns, a custom status message, and a personal accent color.
  • New Notification & privacy preferences — Toggle DM, mention, and server notifications, and control whether you send read receipts.
  • New Server welcome & accent — Server managers can add a welcome message banner and choose an accent color for their server.
v4.1 April

Privacy & Safety

More control over who can reach you, plus stronger defenses against spam and fake accounts.

  • New Direct message privacy — You now decide who can start a conversation with you. In Settings, choose to receive direct messages from everyone, only people who follow you, or only friends. Blocked users stay blocked, and conversations you've already started keep working.
  • Improved Stronger protection against fake accounts — We've tightened sign-ups to curb spam and accounts created in bulk, keeping the community more genuine.
v4.0 May 2026

Blog Posts

Users can now write long-form blog posts alongside their regular feed activity. Blogs live on your profile, appear in the Feed with a distinct card, and come with a built-in KittenAI writing assistant.

  • New Blog posts on profiles — Write blog posts with a title, up to 5,000 characters of content, an optional topic, and draft or publish control. Access them from a new Blogs tab on every user profile.
  • New Feed integration with view filter — Blog posts appear in the Feed alongside regular posts, marked with a Blog badge and a short excerpt. Switch between All, Posts, and Blogs using the new view selector. The filter is reflected in the URL and works alongside topic filters.
  • New KittenAI blog writing assistant — A live chat panel sits beside the blog editor. Ask KittenAI for title ideas, paragraph improvements, or writing feedback. Your current draft is automatically shared as context with every message.
v3.3 April 2026

User Mentions

You can now tag other users with @ in posts, comments, and community channels.

  • New @ Mention autocomplete — Type @ in any text field to see a live suggestion list. Use the arrow keys or mouse to select.
  • New Mention notifications — Tagged users receive a notification linking back to the post or message.
  • New Clickable @username links — @username mentions in posts, comments, channel messages, and forum threads are rendered as clickable profile links.
v3.2 April 2026

Patch Notes & What's New Section

This update introduces a publicly accessible Patch Notes page so every visitor — logged in or not — can follow Clovera's development.

  • New Patch Notes page — Accessible at /patch-notes for all visitors. Browse the full release history in one place.
  • New Patch Notes icon — A custom SVG icon drawn in Clovera's purple-gradient style, consistent with the rest of the icon set.
  • New Footer & sidebar link — Quick access from every page via the footer and the mobile sidebar.
v3.1 March 2026

Custom Emojis

This update adds a set of 20 custom SVG emojis that bring personality to messages, channels, and posts.

  • New 20 custom emojis — cat, clap, cool, crown, cry, eyes, fire, gem, ghost, heart, love, petal, rage, rocket, sleep, smile, star, think, wave, wink — all drawn in the Clovera style.
  • New Emoji picker — Add emojis with one click in DMs, channel messages, and posts.
  • New Inline emoji rendering — The :emoji_name: syntax is automatically converted to an SVG image.
